Reviews: Sept 2010, SAKLAD- Origivation Magazine, Phila, Pa @ http://origivation.com/reviews/september2010/saklad.php
By Jason Sendaula
Larry Saklad's second solo effort, the self titled Saklad, is the successful culmination of years of honing his craft. Having started on the classical piano at age 6 (he performed at Carnegie Hall when he was 10) Larry has gone from jam bands to his own calming style on full display with this release. His skill as a story teller shines throughout the album. Whimsical at points, the album keeps you through waves of rhythm and poignant messages that manage not to be preachy, something not many artists can accomplish. Well worth the experience as soon as you can.
* notes- SALT IN MY COFFEE- written a year ago, took my tracks to producer Wayne Hsu, who recorded my guitars, vocals, more tracks, final mixed with my coffee-stir intro. Mastered by Ryan Schwabe who "sweetened" all 11 songs. Hsu added the special "old school pop" flavors to my "funky-folk alt" in a very current way! NJOY ~LS

“alternative rhythm & folk”
In 2004 Larry SAKLAD experienced a surge in new songwriting, leading to this 2nd album release Sept ’10. Originals include Oh Philadelphia- song & project compiling local songs to do with Philly, and 1st album, Yet2B, ’06. Currently performing solo with guitar, back up drum, bass trax, some piano, + 2 songs with co-writer Kim De Meo. Saklad’s history in the Phila Music Scene spans 30 years, original member on keys & bu vox w Alan Mann, David Rowan, Robert Hazard, and writing/perform w Essra Mohawk, more.
* To listen is to discover more about this perceptive musician who began classical piano age 6, performing at Carnegie Hall age 10, and now returns to the public ear.
Michael Tearson radio dj- “Larry, hope the river’s flowin’ smooth thru your world, nice work on the new platter!”
Following his fall '06 debut release, Yet2B, Larry Saklad has been performing regionally, both in support of those songs, Oh Philadelphia and new writing. Now brings another collection of fresh recordings, SAKLAD, all relate to finding peace in a decidedly unpeaceful place.
As accomplished, both on piano and guitar, Larry's songs reflect an interplay of each instrument weaving counterpoint against the other. This focus shifts throughout the collection and within most songs.
His singing also has shifted- earlier known for his plaintive raw passion, he pushes it with gentler intensity. "Oh Philadelphia" articulates dynamic contrast along with the resonance of "Tethered", while "I Been Told" woos us in refreshing harmony with Kim De Meo, also co-writer.
Contrasts abound, with keyboard textures, electric/ acoustic guitars and drums all providing support for an ever-changing genre. From full-on rock anthems to acoustic ballads and funky-folk pop, Saklad crafts thoughtful and catchy insight about our world, in the light of redefining what is reality/ illusion, as in "Comedy of Errors". Ultimately, truth lies only within our relationships with each other, and no avoiding God as relates to the mindset of peace.
Some may say, peace sounds kind of boring, but experiencing SAKLAD's art is anything but: consider the 1st single,"Salt In My Coffee”!

*** Yet to be is Larry Saklad, a former member of Alan Mann & the Free Arts Band and David Rowan & Exisdance - keyboards: both bands received widespread airplay and acclaim ‘80s-‘91.
He began classical piano at age 6 and performed Carnegie Hall at 10. By 13 Larry was hooked on songwriting and jamming on compact organ in Philly rock bands to the Doors, the Who, Beatles and Stones, Clapton, CSNY and Led Zep. Learning guitar further inspired original songwriting. and by HS graduation Saklad was heard on local radio.
After over a decade working in others' bands including Robert Hazard and Essra Mohawk, in 1993 Larry recorded Alan Mann's "Christmas on the Block" with the help of Tom Basmajian, aired on WMMR by Cyndy Drue for many years. He is now again devoted to his unique talent as singer-songwriter. Writing, recording and playing 'round the clock since April '06 full time, Saklad is performing solo in support of his debut release Yet2B, the Oh Philadelphia project, and new writing , and is also performing/ recording in David Rowan's band "Wet Pet" with Doug Grigsby.
He first premiered the work in progress at the World Café Live on April 16, '05 for the 2nd Annual Alan Mann Tribute to great reception, is receiving airplay on WSTW Hometown Heroes, WXPN Philly Local, WQHS U Penn, VoltaRadio.com and performs regularly since April '06- Phila area @ World Café, Love Park, Blinkin Lincoln, Puck Live, Tin Angel, Fergies, The Khyber, The Fire, TriTone, North Star, John & Peter's, also NY’s National Underground, UC Lounge, more...
