Sally Jones - Songs About Us
author: Doug Ritchie
This album has been a long time coming and I'm so glad it's finally here. Those lucky enough to purchase this CD will find that Sally Jones is a wonderful singer-songwriter and with "Songs About Us" she delivers an awesome product. Producer Eric Uglum's liner notes reveal the heart wrenching adversities that Sally and Chris Jones have had to deal with during the making of this CD. Not only has Sally pursued the project but she has completed it and nailed it down with creative song writing, superb musicianship, and high quality production. With Ron Block's unwavering and impeccable drive with the 5, Eric Uglum's ear for harmony vocals, Stuart Duncan's fiddle and Rob Ickes' dobro, this album is a pleasure to listen to and enjoy. As well, there are many other famous guests on this CD that simply adds to its quality. I would highly recommend picking up
this CD. The love and support that Sally and her family obviously have in their
bluegrass circles really comes through in the artistic mastery of this CD. Thank you Sally!

Beautiful, haunting and exquisitely rendered
author: Ed Goodstein
This album is gorgeous. It may seem quiet and just pretty, but there're a lot of thought and moving aspects to these songs once you really listen. I love Sally's first album too, but in some ways this one has even more depth. At the same time, there's an appealing catchy quality to the songs-- title song is a good example. "Until Today" and "The Morning" are two of the best songs I've heard this year. And her cover of Tom T/.Dixie Lee Hall's "Bluebird in the Rain" is just as good as the killer one of their "Little White Lies" on the first album. Excellent playing/support too. I guess some would compare her to Alison Kraus; Jones though I think stakes out an impressive place of her own, and her singing really combines 'steel' and 'prettiness' brilliantly.
