Leah Salomaa is a Vocalist, Musician, Composer, Children's Music Education Specialist and Teacher. She has a professional background in Acting and Dance.
Aside from her work in the studio and stage in pop/folk music, Leah has a strong connection to families with small children through her soulful, uplifting children's folk music.
As a child Leah started out working in television and theatre and then moved to Scotland to study folk music. She is classically trained in voice, ballet and violin.
As a young adult Leah would split her time leading children's song circles by day and singing on stage in clubs in the evening. She would often be called upon to compose and perform in a traditional Celtic vocal style for film, television and stage scores.
The release of her first children's record "I Like to Rise, Family Folk Songs" has made her a success on a grassroots level, selling 2,000 copies to families worldwide and growing. Her second, "Father Sun and Mother Moon, Soulful Songs for Children" is seeing similar success.
"Under a Winter Star" is Leah's first holiday record.
In retail, Leah's recordings are distributed through 'Fire the Imagination' who supply both her records to quality children's stores across Canada.
"Toronto’s Salomaa specializes in recordings aimed at families, not just kids. I was able to test out her new holiday CD in the perfect setting: a weekend in a house overflowing with three generations. The kids perked up for her lively versions of “Deck the Halls,” “Jingle Bells” and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” I think her first track, “The Holly and the Ivy,” is one of the purest versions of that song I’ve heard. But the hands-down favourite was the Welsh traditional tune “All Through the Night,” which Salomaa performs with simple, sweet vocals and lush harmonies. If you’re in need of a new holiday record like we were, this one is the perfect choice."
