Salt River Trio

The Salt River Trio is based in the seacoast area of southern Maine and consists of Lee Hosack, Mike Rogers, and Bev Rogers. Their unique blend of voices is interwoven with acoustic guitars and Mike's signature harmonica. Salt River Trio performs original and standard songs in a folk/blues style. Their family-oriented music makes this trio most appropriate for listeners of all ages.

Mike has been playing the harmonica since the age of fifteen and has thirty years of professional musicianship. He has recorded on more than a dozen albums, five of these with Portsmouth balladeer, John Perrault. As well as being a singer/songwriter, Mike is also a strong rhythmic force on the acoustic guitar. Bev has been accompanying her husband with her vocal harmonies for fifteen years.

In the mid 1980's Mike and Bev left the seacoast area to live in the Bahamas and then, more recently, the deep South. These moves profoundly influenced Mike's love of rural blues. They have produced two albums of their original tunes. In the spring of 1998 they returned to Maine at which point Lee joined them to form the Salt River Trio, named after the Piscataqua River. The trio has recently released their second CD, "Lookin' Back".

Lee also brings many years of singing, guitar playing and songwriting experience to the group. With her husband, Larry, she has recorded several albums, including an original cassette of children's songs. Lee's musical travels have found her performing throughout New England for the past twenty-five years. She also performs with Windstrum, a semi-classical trio. Lee is also an illustrator of children's books.

We are excited about sharing our second collection of original and traditional songs with you. These songs are the result of our unique synthesis of various traditional folk styles. Several songs grew from actual memories. Rock Island 4005 based on a true event as told to Mike by his grandfather. Strawberries in the Field, a childhood memory of Lee's and Run Bead Run, the memory of a beloved dog. Bangor Shootout 1937 was based on an actual historical event in Bangor, Maine. We have great fun creating the three-part harmonies that are an integral part of the music we make and Mike's incredible harmonica tops it off. Songs of life near the sea and in the countryside bring to mind earlier times. Lookin Back is about reflection, but also about moving forward. Enjoy!
