This is seamusic as you might have heard it standing by the mizzen pinrail, or walking into the fo'c'sle companionway during the dog watch. There is brine in their voices, and tar on their hands -- you can just hear it. Full-throated, tuneful singing of a classic set of sailor songs, from the iconic "Blow the Man Down" to the bloody "Jolly Bold Robber". If you can't catch Salty Walt and crew live when they're in port, this is the next best thing.

If you can't catch Salty Walt and crew live when they're in port, then this is the next best thing.

Multilayered traditional vocals

I really enjoy this CD. I prefer my sea chanteys sung by men who sound like they are enjoying themselves and this recording is a fine example of that. It only gets better on repeated listening. The voices of the singers don't sound overly processed and yet are rich and lush-- and you can understand every word. I also appreciate that the arrangements are natural and uncontrived, and yet not simple. Listening to this, I can almost imagine I've been lucky enough to be invited to listen in on a group of highly talented friends singing together for their own amusement. Well worth owning!
