notes
For the first time, singer/songwriter Sal Casabianca goes "unplugged," with Curve--11 original acoustic titles. But their lack of electricity makes them no less electric.
From the autobiographic "28 Years," about the death of his brother; to the simple wish of "It's Christmas" ("Christmas yet to come please be kind to me."), Sal Casabianca take us on a personal journey we all have traveled or will travel.
It's a long road from the Queens kid who picked-up the guitar after hearing Kiss and seeing Frank Zappa in concert. But it's those disparate musical elements which have been a constant in Sal's writing and, ultimately, makes Curve's songs self-aware without being self-indulgent.
With an open mind to various musical styles and an ironic sense of humor never far from reach, Sal Casabianca went from Queens garage bands in the early 1980s to Pilot Jones in 1988. ("We got signed by CBS Records and were never heard from again.").
In the early 1990's, as part of the band Venus Beat, ("It was a blend of Disco, R&B and two Drag Queens singing soul.") he became a Wednesday night regular at New York City's Limelight.
Venus Beat disbanded in 1993, and Sal began pursuing a career in finance. It was always an avocation but "I got finally got serious about it." The "desire to always be creative," however, wouldn't subside.
In 1998, Sal went from "acid house dance to acoustic guitar and singer-songwriter," playing at open mike nights. But whether Queens garage band, '80s dance or drag queen disco, Sal was always a songwriter. "Music," he writes in the liner notes of Curve, "saved my life and is my way."
Share Sal Casabianca's way and listen to Curve. And if you have an open mike, Sal has the guitar. "The Drag Queens," he says, "are optional."

Hummable, yes, it's hummable. Hum. Hum. Hum.
author: "The Other" Carrot TopThe old saying goes a good hook never hurt anyone, and it sure helps a song. This is the case with many of the songs on Curve. But unlike Britney and her cadre of clones meldoy for melody's sake, the hooks in these songs actually draw the listener into a deeper lyric. Win-win all around.

superb songwriting, a passioned performance, and awesome technique, all in one c
author: Steve CFantastic, Sal! You've scored big in three areas: songwriting, performance, and technical expertise. I am lucky to find an artist who can impress me in even one of those areas, and you did it in all three! It really is excellent, tuneful, and moving too. The guitar synth fills really round out the songs - very well done. It really is excellent. Now I'm really looking forward to hearing you perform again.

Good Stuff: Soulful, Deep and Moody
author: GtExceptional production. The music takes you to many different places where thoughts and emotions wonderfully wander. An excellent acoustic guitar-based work that spans a wide variety of styles. Executed with conviction to the max. I love the true emotion captured on "28" (my personal favorite). Nice work!
Powerful acoustic fingerstyle...intelligent and sensitive lyrics -- you must hea
author: John MoroskiOn first listen you will (or should be !) blown away by his GUITAR WORK !!! (Check out "Addiction" sample.) A refreshingly unique and aggresive style...strong jazz riffs effectively interwoven with the best innovations from new age acoustic fingerstyle -- and captivatingly voiced in a variety of open-tunings. THEN...listen again and again...to appreciate the lyrics of this very bright, sensitive, street-wise and retrospective songwriter.

Dylan Thomas meets Cat Stevens
author: Luigi BascoI don't often go to extremes but "bravo, bravo, bravo...no bravissimo!" It isn't often you get the power of a lyric poem combined with a melody you start to hum. However, as the gangstas chant: "Oop, here it is!" Worth more than a few hundred listens! ;-)
Deep seeded words with edgy, catchy guitar. Over all very Good.
author: Sam CazThe songs seem to have deep meaning and a strong message. Finally, songs that will enable you to reflect on you life and allow you to ask questions. Music has a very catchy edge that makes you patiently addicted. Over all a very strong piece of work by Mr. Casabianca.
Listen,Listen,Listen
author: McTime and time again we take less and less time to listen. But in taking the time, this music has touched my soul.
great, time spent listening is time well spent.
author: ef inc.time spent listening is time well spent. it's rare that a cd dominates my play list, curves has done that. it's rare that music can allow one to shape the many images portrayed, curves has done that. it's for this that i'm thankful.... we want more!
Powerful Lyrics to go with music like it ought to be.
author: JzAn Album from the heart, for people who appreciate good listening music. The lyrics grab your attention and make you listen over and over again. The guitar playing enables you to close your eyes and make it across to what is real..... Music the way it ought to be. A keeper for all music collectors
