"I consider myself something of an expert on piano/vibraphone duets, and I started listening to the new CD by Sergio and Christos with a little bit of apprehension. After all, they were moving into my territory, so to speak, so it better be damned good, I was thinking. I needn't have worried. "Sergio Salvatore is a pianist and composer of extraordinary skill and passion. Dark Sand with vibraphonist Christos Rafalides represents what jazz is all about; communication, improvisation, and beauty... This is on my iPod!" – Larry Rosen
"Lyrical and Propulsive -- 4 Stars"
James Hale - Downbeat

Dark Sand marks 27-year-old pianst/composer Sergio Salvatore’s return to recording after a 12-year hiatus. This engaging and energetic duet project with virtuoso vibraphonist Christos Rafalides features many new original pieces along with a some inventive nods to standards.
While planning an eclectic performance of originals in 2007, Salvatore went in search of a vibraphonist to share the stage with. Greek-born Manhattanite Christos Rafalides was at the top of everyone’s list. “From the first notes of the first rehearsal, I was sure that we were about to forge a very exciting and lasting musical partnership,” said Salvatore.
Following their first performance, plans for a recording materialized instantly. Rafalides penned the uniquely syncopated and fast-paced title track Dark Sand, setting the tone for the material that follows.
