Album Notes

Singer songwriter Samantha Murphy has been in the music industry her entire life. Born in Hawaii, her mother is Australian and father is from New Zealand. Samantha grew up on the road, singing in her family's band, The Murphys. The family toured the United States from the time Samantha could walk, opening for artists such as Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson. She wrote her first song when she was eight and performed it on stage that same night, somewhere in Ohio. She hasn't stopped since.

While most kids were learning how to read and write, Samantha was experiencing life on a tour bus, hanging out with circus people and musicians. About her early experience with the "business" side of show, Samantha says "My sister and I would sell our albums off the stage after the show. They were $8.00 then. When I was nine years old, I asked my dad what our 'cut' was and where my share of the profits was going. From then on, I got $1.00 for every album we sold. That's more than most artists get from a major label now."

Samantha's songs literally drip with personality! They're quirky and whimsical, full of appealing contrasts. On the one hand, she's kind of sweet and girly; on the other, she's kind of a rebellious rocker chick. Even the title of her new CD, somewhere between starving & stardom, seems to reflect these odd contrasts. As a solo artist, Samantha has opened for Five for Fighting, Steve Poltz and many others. She has her own Podcast called SMtv that features a different indie artist each week. After only 13 shows on iTunes, Samantha has over 10,000 subscribers! She's also a staff writer for KillYourFM, a new digital magazine you download to your Sony Playstation Portable (PSP).
