A Greensboro, NC native, Sam Hensley started performing in 1993 with his acoustic duet, The Hopeless Romantics. In 1994, as a solo artist, he took first place in the Triad Song Slam a record three times. In 1999, he released his first solo album, Beg the Sky, featuring the song “So Right”, an honorable mention at the Georgia Music Industry Assoc. songwriting contest. Sam now maintains a full-time writing and touring schedule, going between Episcopal Youth Conferences, and secular clubs and festivals. He has recently made appearances at the Eno River Festival, Durham, NC; City Stage, Greensboro, NC; and the National Cathedral, Washington, DC.
Produced by Greensboro's Rob Seals, who also plays multiple instruments on the record, Run Like Water showcases intimate and thought-provoking lyrics on a backdrop of solid, acoustically based grooves. Featuring Derek Jones (Nickel Creek), Dale Baker (Sixpence none the Richer), Eddie Walker and Ray Laughran(Evan Olson), and Greensboro songstress Claire Holley, the ten songs wind through the genres of folk and Americana, with a subtle touch of pop rock. The tunes create a path through the realm of human emotion, exploring the common realities that hold us down, and lift us up. From the song “Broken”, a desperate crying out for healing, to the love and reconciliation of family in “Prodigal Son,” the range of emotion and sentiment is wide, creating a musical journey that Chris Roulhac of WQFS-FM in Greensboro calls”â¦inspiring and beautiful”. Run Like Water is available worldwide via the Internet, at www.samhensley.com

A great mix of acoustic rock and other influences!
author: Zak Madden
This is a great collection of songs covering some compelling topics with killer production. I am a big Nickel Creek fan, so I was psyched to see their old bass player on the CD. My favorites are "Broken" and "Joe" and "Prodigal Son." I stumbled onto this CD from the Rob Seals website. I have his CD and he produced Run Like Water. I love the mix of influences he brings to Sam's really cool songs--some slide guitar, electrics, mandolin, cellos, and a kick ass rhythm section. Reminds me of old Vertical Horizon at times with the acoustic guitar solo on "Hold Me Up" especially and some of Sam Hensley's groovy melodies. A great mix; glad I got this one.
