Songs and sounds awake and stir different emotions in each of us. The stirring contemporary sound of the Sammy Hall Singers has had a far-reaching influence that has been absorbed by young and old alike and has produced one of the fastest rising singing groups in our generation. Theirs is the sound of today with the message of yesterday, today and tomorrow ... a sound with which we can readily identify and find our own expression.
When Sammy Hall recorded the last song that Smitty wrote, "I'd Like to Tell You of Jesus," I was thrilled, and even more so because I had the distinct privilege of attending the recording session for this album, " Plenty of Time." The title continues to haunt and intrigue me. How much time is plenty of time? We hope to have plenty of time to enjoy all the intangible blessings of life - the blessings of being able to see . . . to sense ... to feel . . . to care ... to be loved . .. to live ... to be at peace with our Creator. But we never know how much time will be measured out to us individually to savor these blessings.
God taught Smitty Gatlin and me many things about living life to its fullest ... how to sort it out and place things in their proper perspective, how and where to recognize the things of real and lasting value, how to live each day of life in great expectancy and anticipation; expecting nothing of anyone and everything of God. I think Sammy Hall has learned something of the same expectancy and excitement Smitty felt each day of his life and has a testimony of great impact that says he knows of life.
When God touched Sammy's life and elevated him from a rock-and-roll entertainer to a higher plane, He also increased his talent and placed in his heart a challenge. Sammy and the Sammy Hall Singers meet this challenge with a tremendous outpouring of excitement, which gives their music soul and their listeners inspiration.
I wish to express my personal appreciation to the Sammy Hall Singers for this album; to Sammy for being the first other than Smitty to record his last song; for offering a timely selection of songs that will inspire a thrill to every Christian, a challenge to those who are seeking answers in a troubled time, and a blessing for all that will last forever.
