Hailing from Anniston, Alabama, Samuel grew up watching his father singing with gospel groups & always enjoyed hearing their beautiful harmonies. One day he decided to join his brothers in a gospel group. What made him know that he had a great voice was the request that he received to perform in Gadsden, Alabama, along with the Mighty Clouds of Joy. At that time, Paul Beasley had left The Gospel keynotes and joined The Mighty Clouds of Joy.
Samuel continued singing and became a member of the choir at Alabama A&M University. The choir director encouraged him to continue singing in the choir, which he did for one year but later he left to join a band.
"I once auditioned for a well-known songwriter, now deceased, from New York who loved my voice. He thought that my style was similar to Smokey Robinson’s. He wanted to write for me. However, my stay in Jacksonville Florida was short-lived. I moved to Tampa, Fl., in 1989 and later began writing songs along with James White who composed a song that appears on my debut CD. Also, I teamed up with Harold F. Washington who composed several songs on my debut CD and briefly accompanies me on one of the songs we co-wrote and produced together.”
For his Sophomore album: Soul Alliance, Samuel has once again teamed up with Harold F. Washington as well as writer/producer Kevin Sergent.
Samuel's current influences range from singers/performers such as Prince, Smokey Robinson, Freddie Mercury & Ne-Yo.
