Album Notes

"Call of the Sun" is the first solo album of Samuli Kristian, a Finnish composer and guitarist, who has profiled earlier by his trio Bogdo Ula. In this album all instruments, other than guitars, are programmed with a computer software. Guitars are played through Fractal Audio Axe-Fx Ultra or Digitech GSP 1101 guitar processors. No amps are used.

The musical ambition of Samuli Kristian is realizing in two ways. Free improvisation is the main concept of his band Bogdo Ula. He enjoys the improvisational freedom, the moment of communication with his band members. On the other hand, to work in a home studio, composing and playing guitar parts for his compositions, is a big challenge and a deep desire. Samuli Kristian wishes to communicate with the listener bringing an overall personal touch in his music.

"Call of the Sun" is an example of the melodic side of Samuli Kristian’s musical talent. His main goal in composing is to come up with a great melody. His influences are guitar players like Shawn Lane, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Eric Johnson. Also Erik Wøllo's electronic music has been an inspiration. Other influences are Ozric Tentacles and Pink Floyd.
