Steve Sanderson is a Yorkshire (UK) based singer/songwriter. His solo material is mainly acoustic guitar based and his influences include Bob Dylan, The Clash, Neil Young and most blues artists.
Steve started playing guitar and writing his own songs initially after being inspired by the D.I.Y ethos of the late 70’s Punk scene. Several years later he formed and fronted ‘The Attic’. The band gigged regularly and made an impact on the local (Leeds/Bradford) scene with the help of support slots with Paul Simmonon of The Clash, Eddie And The Hot Rods and Wreckless Eric amongst others.
After the band split up in 1996, Steve went back to writing material based around the acoustic guitar and augmented his sound with his trusty harmonica. The subject matter of Steve’s lyrics can range from anything from Politics to the price of fish and the music is immersed in the spirit of The Blues.
In recent years Steve has been gigging mainly in the Yorkshire area, solo, with guitarist BB Tim and more recently with bassist Rich Clark to add some depth to the live sound. Downloads of his songs on the internet, radio play, radio sessions and a good response from audiences at gigs has given him the incentive to continue writing and recording.
About ‘The Gallery Tapes’
‘The Gallery Tapes’ is the 3rd solo C/D by Steve and is probably his most diverse. The music is heavily blues influenced and the lyrics are often nostalgic and introspective while managing to retain a contemporary feel.
Steve is a bit of a Luddite! and dislikes digital recording technology. The music was recorded on a 4 track tape machine at Driftwood Studios in Leeds and was inspired by the traditional approach to recording adopted by favourites of his like The White Stripes and Neil Young.
