“Winter Moon” is Jody Sandhaus' first CD as leader.
Reviewing “Winter Moon” in JazzTimes, Chuck Berg said that, “Jody Sandhaus is an evocative vocalist whose sultry after-hours delivery meshes perfectly with such exquisitely excruciating torch tales as "Not in Love". On medium paced gambols she flirts with breezy aplomb”. Berg also remarked, "clearly, Sandhaus is a singer who's also a musician. She phrases like a horn and swings with uptown élan”.
Sandhaus is married to pianist Pete Malinverni and the mother of three. Jody was born in Houston, Texas and moved to New York when still quite young. Alan Bargebuhr in Cadence Jazz Review says, “Finally, in Jody Sandhaus we get refreshing directness delivered via a lovely soprano instrument which brims over with warmth and intelligence. A marvelous singer from the technical (intonation, phrasing, and enunciation) and emotional (lyric interpretation, dramatic skills) standpoints, backed by an exemplary trio…”
Jody enjoys searching for those tunes, that are gems, frequently written by masters of The Great American Songbook, but seldom performed. She began playing the piano at age six, which she continued through college, and with this skill, rifles through old songbooks looking for hidden treasures.
Jody Sandhaus is also a featured soloist on Pete Malinverni's CD-DVD "JOYFUL!" (a collection of jazz/gospel originals). She sings every week in Brooklyn, NY as a member of the Devoe Street Baptist Church, a predominately African American Church where her husband, Pete Malinverni, has been the Minister of Music since 1993.
