Paris-based Maltese jazz guitarist releases his first CD as a leader, joined by some of the most active musicians from the younger generation of Paris' jazz scene - David Prez, Olivier Zanot, Yoni Zelnik and David Georgelet.
The music Sandro composed for this group is not merely a vehicle for improvisation. He privileged melody and song-form, in an aesthetic whose simplicity is at moments closer to pop music than to jazz.
With influences as diverse as Ornette Coleman, the Beatles, Paul Motian’s Electric Bebop Band, David Binney, Led Zeppelin, Thelonious Monk, Keith Jarrett’s 70s groups, this group reflects a current trend amongst young jazz musicians - eclectic, and willing to expand their horizons by drawing inspirations from other sources other than the jazz heritage alone.
