Album Notes

Sandy Connolly, also known as The Tune Chic, has arrived on the New Haven blues scene with music that makes you want to get down, put on your Ray Bans, and channel the Blues Brothers. She sings songs that remind you why you married your honey, dumped ‘em, and took ‘em back again. She’ll take you back to the days with the top down (mostly because it was stuck down) with music that makes you dance all night.

She has just released her first CD No Turning Back which consists of songs by everybody from Bonnie Raitt to Bruce Springsteen, the Judds, B.B. King, and Ray Charles.

So who is the Tune Chic? The Tune Chic was originally trained in the depths of the Southland to sing opera, as her father was an opera buff and wept to hear her sing in that fashion. Her parents sent her to school to study classically, but she has since fallen from their pedestal. She smoked way too many cigarettes and drove too many broken-down cars. She now sings the blues in the New Haven area.

“She has a unique voice with traces of Bonnie Raitt and Sarah McLachlan around the edges,” says Jilian Grey, lead singer for Hothouse. Local guitar legend Johnny Memphis, formerly with the New Haven Radiators, calls her a joy to work with.

“Not only does she have an intuitive sense of the best in American music, from gospel to blues to country to jazz, but she has the talent to sing comfortably in any genre. And sing the hell out of it as well,” says Memphis.

“The songs on Connolly’s new CD, No Turning Back, are done so well that I hardly knew they were cover songs. She picked a great selection that is not the average top forty. It’s one of the better CD’s that I have received. The genius of Jeff Cannata [at Oxford Circus Studios] brought out the best of Connolly’s abilities. I recommend that everyone go buy the CD!” says Johnny Parris of Act 1 Entertainment.

“The Tune Chic is the most effective preventative treatment for all ills, including the bird flu. So if you are afflicted with the blues, rockin’ pneumonia, or the boogie woogie flu, my prescription is Tune Chic as needed,” John Pendergast, PA-C, Director, P.R.O.S. Medical Services.

No Turning Back

This is a great cd. Some songs are covers, but the arrangements are all original. Born to be Blue/Pink Cadillac is particularly good, although Sandy and her band cut it short at the end. Did they run out of tape? She's a Butterfly will touch your heart. Sandy, may your wings never touch the ground.
