Album Notes

“Sandy Foster’s latest effort would be best served up with a nice, dry red wine and a dimly lit room. Fans of her past work will notice that, like the wine, Foster’s voice gets better with time, as she displays a new maturity in terms of both her tone and phrasing. It is a high-water mark in her recording career, to date”. Kurt Leavins, Magic 99

SPRING SHOWERS BRING…

SANDY FOSTER’S SIXTH RELEASE INDIGO RAIN

Soul drenched eclectic jazz exploring the moods and hues of blue. For the sixth time in just over six years, Sandy Foster is releasing an album. To be launched April, 2009, indigo rain features eight originals, a distinctive arrangement of the classic Make the World Go Away, Connie Kaldor’s Bigger Than Anywhere Else and an original arrangement of a Scottish hymn (Beautiful Isle of Somewhere).

Blue is the hue of rain, night sky, my children's eyes, Scotland's flag, prairie days, and of course, blue whales. Rain refers to quiet droplets of hope pouring from heaven, often from my eyes, and the voices of encouragers in life, washing the sorrow & silt from life. Thinking, waiting, longing and hoping, all of this is indigo rain. May this tuneful band of blue blanket reminders of hope, loyalty, and eventually royalty in life around you. Sandy Foster

Produced by René Worst (Skywalk) and engineered by Tony Chamberlist, this collection features the instrumental talents of Kevin Andrews (flute/drums), René Worst (upright bass), Sandy Foster (keys), Wes Yaciuk (guitar), and Tony Chamberlist (drums/percussion).

”Prolific jazz singer-songwriter…able to communicate her emotional life so deeply through her music.” EDMONTON JOURNAL

Sandy Foster can be considered among the greats of modern Canadian jazz vocalists standing beside the likes of Holly Cole, Diana Krall and Molly Johnson (Full Spectrum Ottawa) Her sultry, immediately captivating voice and alternatively thoughtful & wildly funny commentary shine in each performance. Foster's six releases since 2003 (purplexed - 2003, orangify - 2004, marooned - 2005, spruce it up – 2006, caramelize – 2007 and now indigo rain in 2009) feature nearly fifty originals and offer smooth, sensitive vocals, unexpected arrangements, thought-provoking compositions, tasteful standards and heartfelt delivery.
