Having played drums on this CD on 4-5 cuts I can say that it was a pleasure. Probably the most memorable part for me was laying down tracks and hearing Audrey Terry's stand up bass in my headphones as I played. I could hear the WOOD of the bass!!! Definately a departure from what I was used to!

Sandy McKnight makes a good point when, in his liner notes, he writes: "...the music scene has stumbled and stuttered, and rock has become as close to irrelevant as it ever has in its storied history." McKnight attempts to correct this situation with his new CD titled IN SOLITARY, which features 11 songs he wrote and performed, plus one cover of the old favorite, "Last Song." It's a pleasing mixture which is reminiscent of some of the folk/rock/blues albums of the early 70s. James Taylor comes to mind, although McKnight's voice really sounds much more like Joe Jackson's. Standouts on the CD include the opening cut, "King of the World," an enjoyable and poppy tune; "Charade," which features an excellent flute solo by Paul Simon session musician Oriente Lopez; and "Next Stop Willoughby," the title of which was taken from an old TWILIGHT ZONE episode about a train that took one passenger into the past. The title cut, too, is pleasant in both arrangement and execution. IN SOLITARY is evocative of a time when singer-songwriters still created harmonies and didn't just set out to top each other with the number of expletives they could put into their music. If you're looking for a good summer CD to listen to in the car or at the beach, IN SOLITARY may take you back to those halcyon days of Taylor, Neil Young and Seals and Croft. --Bruce G. Hallenbeck
