Album Notes

Santa JG has a new take on Christmas tunes. With a 50’s feel and a 21st century attitude, Santa mixes jazz and Dixieland, holiday cheer and message music, to produce a fun and frolicking CD for Xmas 007.

Jonathan Meath, a Cantabrigian who has produced Emmy award-winning children’s TV (Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego and ZOOM) discovered Santa JG inside himself and took on this project with gusto.

“I have been singing for years with the Christmas Revels here in Cambridge, as well as producing for WGBH, so I had the skills. When Santa JG approached me with the idea of this holiday album, well, I just couldn’t resist.”

Mathew O’Malley was brought in by Mr. Meath to arrange for Santa JG. Santa immediately liked O’Malley, saying that he had the right “feel” for the project: classical training with a little bit of funkadelic. See Mr. O’Malley’s work with Harra Kam Rada on MySpace. Songs were chosen and arrangements were made for a September recording session.

Meath and O’Malley put together a band of jazz elves for the session. Hot Berklee players and New York session rats combined with the heart of Roomful of Blues in the presence of Carl Querfurth’s soulful trombone. There is even a bit of Revels here with Claire (9) & Abby (6) Dixon adding their voices to “Santa Claus is Coming to Town!”

The CD is available at Santa JG’s website and CDBaby exclusively.
