Album Notes

About Sarah Jacob

Sarah Jacob was born in England to Indian/Middle Eastern/Jewish parents. Her music is as eclectic and confused as her heritage resulting in passionate melodies and prolific songwriting. Her new CD ‘Damask’, is emotional, philosophical and healing. “I use my music to address difficult topics, like our relationship with nature and others, as well as more personal emotions that every human being experiences. I was very lucky to work with some brilliantly talented local musicians. Extra special thanks to local Jazz artist Max Farber who helped arrange many songs on the album."

Sarah Jacob's beautiful voice is sultry and soulful. I find her music in that interesting transitional place between folk and jazz. Her voice is reminiscent of Ani DeFranco (especially “Dare I”, “Nature”) and Rickie Lee Jones (“Wounded World”), but with her own definitive and original style with original lyrics and music. I especially love “Deprivation” where I think her unique voice quality is most evident. I highly recommend this unique talent!

I love this album. Sarah's voice is beautiful - Her work rivals Ani Defranco. The lyrics are wonderful. Five stars!

Enticing and evocative. There's a vulnerability in Sarah's approach that seduces me into her private, soulful world. The rhythms are exotic while the lyrical themes are very personal. She sounds like candle light. She sounds like wine. This album that makes you sway with the bass notes and stop what you were doing to focus up on the words, sometimes delicate and sometimes blunt and sometimes revelatory. This music is exquisite.
