ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
~ Sara K. is in a class all of her own. This singer is gifted with the rare ability of having an emotional grasp of the listener by virtue of her spontaneous and intensive aura that casts a spell on the listener. All her records have received several high-calibre awards, including a number of jazz awards.

"Hell or High Water", (Stockfisch Records), Sara K.'s second album produced outside of the US, is not only a brilliant poetic and musical achievement. It is a great sounding recording as well. This SACD/CD yields 10 previously unreleased songs, featuring the late Chris Jones on guitar and dobro. It is Sara K's 10th CD to date.

This Hybrid-SACD includes a 16bit hybrid layer and can therefore be played on any CD-Player! SACD Surround sound (5.1 multi-channel mix) requires multi-channel SACD player and compatible surround sound system for playback.

The songs of this album once more open up Sara K.’s musical universe, or as you will: her soul. She is a brave woman who goes where ever she wants and takes the listener with her. For the former you need conviction, for the latter seduction. Her often imagistic lyrics are singular in their emotional intensity – easy to accept but strong in their content – a velvet hand in a boxing glove which you would like to send you into the realm of dreams.

“Sara K is an international hidden treasure. She is a superb singer with a range of emotion in her voice that will melt the coldest heart. She is a superb songwriter with an endless capacity to write a song that you will know in seconds and love for years. In fact “superb” seems to be the bottom line. Can anyone explain why there isn’t a Sara K CD in every collection? Hell or High Water is Sara K at her very very best.” John Carver - PBS radio Australia

moving
"Stars" is one of my top 20 or 30 songs. Great recording Sara

Fantastic-- one of her very best
This is a fantastic album I think. Really it picks up strands of her work dating all the way back to her first, "Gypsy Alley" and more recent concerns and ideas. The intricate and soulful interweaving of soul, pop, folk strains and her lyrics, both romantic and sassy, are really displayed wonderfully here. As heartfelt and compelling as Joni Mitchell in the mid-late '70's and yet distinctly Sara herself. All of her albums, if varied, maintain a very high quality I think-- playing, singing and arrangements. This one I think is my favorite since "Closer Than They Appear"-- which is saying something!

Another great album from Sara.
I already have 3 of Saras albums which are some of my favourites in an extensive music collection. When I play them I enjoy every one of her songs. This album is superb. Thanks Sara - I must come and see you live.

truly natural
Sound on this CD is something new for me. Never listen before, full dynamic, Sara's voice appears realy as good as in listening room (sounds like VYNIL, or better!). Absolutely worth for money.

Hell or High Water
Great Album and Sara K's voice is always a joy to listen to.
Unfortunately this album has fallen in to the trap of highly compressed sound far too loud. Which is pointless on a SACD which is supposed to be the pinacle of recordings. The meters on my nagra hit the end stop on some of the tracks. This is all due to the market for mp3 players, some of us still like to listen to music on a high end audio system. Given 3 stars purely on recording.

First of hers I have. Different, I like it.

Perfect CD, High quality recording
Again a perfect CD from Sara K. Certainly as good as Water Falls and maybe even better. The recording is absolutely stunning!

Spellbindingly beautiful, recording quality is in a class of it's own
Stockfish records did a marvelous job on this CD allowing all the subtle colors and shadings that the incomparable Sara K. wanted us to experience, definitely a new standard in recording technology.
The Music is spellbinding, try Stars.. that perfectly captured glass Harp will let you see the milky way..while Sara's voice washes over you with rich sweetness,
and then there is "something more" a totally devastating piece of creative beauty that will leave you lusting for more....irresistible....
