Album Notes

Sarina Simoom features the multi-talented Jenna Herbst on violin, electric and acoustic guitar and lead vocals. Sarina Simoom was started by frontperson, violinist, and guitarist Jenna in Washington D.C. in 1995.  They developed a devout following in the NYC/Phily/D.C. area after playing shows at prestigious clubs like the Black Cat and 930 Club.  After relocating to Denver with lead guitarist and backup vocalist Brian Balestrieri in 1998, they were joined by Todd Bills on drums.

Best described as a cross between the minor key acoustic driven music of Swell and the vocals of Kate Bush and Nina Simone.  Add a splash of Cat Power and Dirty Three , with eclectic rhythmic influences, and you have Sarina Simoom.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:

"(Jenna) Herbst is simply a luminous talent -- a concise player whose elastic vocal style recalls Kate Bush, a more melodic Kristin Hersh and the elusive sirens of all those Greek myths. And though Herbst occupied a large portion of the spotlight at last week's show, the band's wisely understated, harmonic arrangements were a simple, sensual and sensory treat. "  .....  Laura Bond, Westword Magazine, November 11, 1999.

A review of Sarina Simoom from THE ONION: "Sarina Simoom is one of the area's most interesting new groups, led by former Twilight Motel violinist Jenna Herbst. Herbst's giddy vocal acrobatics readily draw comparisons to Kate Bush and Cocteau Twins, and the largely acoustic music owes much to that gently textured 4AD feel."

I've loved this album for years, but Jenna I had no idea it was you. Our relationship continues to unfold. Oh to write a song like "Place In Line." I love covering that song. So tender, inventive. Much Love!
