\"Rhapsody in Gershwin\" is a concert program that jazz pianist/vocalist Susan Artemis developed in 2004 in which she weaves a medley of songs by George and Ira Gershwin into a solo piano version of George Gershwin\'s Rhapsody in Blue. On the songs -- which are played in a jazz style complete with improvisation -- Susan is joined by Mike Levy on bass and Alejandro Canelos on drums.
Susan was born in New York, and spent most of her childhood in eastern Massachusetts, where she started taking piano lessons at the age of eight. She continued with her study of classical piano through high school and at the University of Vermont. After receiving a certificate in Jazz Studies at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music in 1987, Susan launched her performing career, first in Milwaukee, and later in Ohio and Virginia. She moved to Tucson in 1997, where she plays regularly at area clubs and restaurants, as well as in concerts and jazz festivals. Wherever she performs, she charms audiences with her sultry voice and sophisticated piano interpretations of classic jazz standards by the likes of Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart, Cole Porter and others. www.susanartemis.com

A real treat for the Gershwin lover!
author: Lucy Horton
This is a really virtuosic achievement--it flows along with Rhapsody in Blue as a constant recurring theme, the songs include the most marvelous verses, many of them rarely, if ever, heard, and Susan Artemis's angular vocal style is perfectly suited to the material. The lyrics are given the same respect as the music, which is all-important with songs of this caliber. You are sure to enjoy this.
