Album Notes

This is remarkable stuff.

A duo like no other, recording in a format that finally does justice to the music.

Imagine the intimacy of a song whispered into your ear, so close it raises goose bumps.

ZoomTone Records gives your ears what they deserve: real magic from real music captured alive and breathing by the new technology of SACD. We offer music as a performance, not a product. It's fragile, not perfect.

Real music is hard. It's a whole lot easier to hammer out a product in a studio with overdubs, reverb and endless editing than it is to pare down to two voices, two microphones and one guitar. Michael Willson and Beth Rudd recorded this entire album in eight hours with a single engineer in an old stone church. Except it didn't take eight hours. It took a few decades of practice to make it sound this great.

The result is Waiting for Godiva, a collection of re-invented classics and original interludes. The guitars, like the music, are classics: a 1974 handmade Thomas Humphrey and a 1995 Martin OM21. While their singing is very precise, the vintage on Willson and Rudd has not yet been determined.

It's recorded live to DSD. The disk you buy will play like nothing you've ever heard if you have an SACD player, and it will play just great if you have a regular old CD player.

This is music worth paying for. It's music worth listening to.

PS our CDs cost a little more because they are duplicated in Germany using a special hybrid process. They are actually more similar to DVDs than to CDs--but yes, they will play on your standard CD player. SACDs usually sell for $24. But we're working hard to make this format cheaper! Thanks for your support.

REVIEWS

A beautifully crafted recording, Direct Stream Digital at it's very best!

Michael and Beth did a superb job with this recording, I purchased it shortly after buying my SACD player. There is NOTHING like the source material being recorded "correctly" in the Direct Stream Digital format. The disc offers a very diverse selection of songs from The Beatles to Jefferson Airplane, the acoustics are as perfect as I could ever ask for, and sorry, it's gone now, and you can't have my copy! Thanks to Michael and Beth for taking the DSD (SACD) format to it's highest potential, the proof is in this product!
