Roots Rhythm Rock: (n)
1) The result of marrying percussive beats, driving lyrics, rhythmic, melodic arrangements, and a love for soulful, uncorrupted music.
2) The Sauerwine Sound.
Originally formed as a jam-based, fun-loving college band, Sauerwine has been entertaining diverse crowds for the past 4 years. Since relocating to the Southeastern PA area a year ago, founding members Matt Holub & Mark Norvick, along with percussive masters Jorge Llamas and Beau Shirk, have brought this college 'project' to the next level. This band of 4 young, ambitious characters has been casting their spell of unique music from Central PA eastward, up into eastern New York State, and south into Delaware. With the release of their debut self-produced CD, Vinyl e, they're poised to make their mark on modern music, and provide listeners with the brand of music they've been missing.
Not to be classed as sounding like any music out there, Sauerwine's best comparison to popular music would be as follows: The originality of the Talking Heads meeting the 70s rock of Steely Dan & The Doobie Brothers before finally merging with the driving lyrical styles of Sting and Dave Matthews. Throw a little Latin twist in there, and you've got an adequate summation of the Sauerwine sound, in terms of popular music. In essence, this band seeks to placate the market left behind by the demise of Phish, Rusted Root, The Grateful Dead, and Blues Traveler. Sauerwine's lyrics make you feel their pain & personal loss, teach you how to laugh & cry at love, and demonstrate how to laugh at yourself - how to not take yourself (or others) too seriously.
Having played in all types of venues, from fraternity basements to pool halls, from brew pubs to festivals to battle-of-the-bands, Sauerwine seeks to continually add new listeners and new markets. They've been awarded 'house band' status at a number of their recurring venues. They made it to the semi-finals in their first year in the Delaware Music Festival (and expect to win this year!). They've opened for such national bands as Mercy River, and they continue to maintain close ties with other area bands, often sharing shows to really broaden the audience's musical experience. Sauerwine represents a love for music, an energy that's enthralling, and most importantly, these 4 guys can play!
