Album Notes

SAUL

Saul Rosenthal (SAUL) is a Denver-based singer/songwriter and guitarist who performs contemporary Jewish folk music. His songs join original music - with roots firmly planted in American folk styles of the 60's and 70's - to traditional Jewish text that comes from prayer and biblical motifs. His summer camp guitar experiments and his 19 years as a synagogue cantor (liturgical leader) produce a combination that has been described as "appealing, inviting and spiritual".

Twelve of SAUL's songs are on his first recording, Anchors and Paths. According to SAUL, "the music I am creating forms both anchors and paths - for me and for those who are listening". SAUL's solo performances are upbeat and uplifting with lots of chances for audience participation. He is a warm, witty and spirited player whose "beautiful music and lyrics anchor us Jewishly and then send us soaring on our individual paths and American journeys", according to Rabbi Irwin Kula. The Denver Post says simply, "watch out for Saul Rosenthal".
