Album Notes

"[W]ith a name like Sausage Grinder, what do you expect? These juicy red hots aren’t about knackwurst… well, don’t go there. Let’s just say that they aim to scatter a fair sampling of the scatological with spot on musical embellishment. ... It’s all performed completely unabashed, with wide-eyed winks, a squeeze here and a naughty nudge there."
-- Joel Okida, Folkworks.org

Sausage Grinder is your go-to crew for stomp, strut, rag, breakdown, and fat-ass hillbilly jazz. Sounds so sweet like candied meat -- always in all-natural casings with no electrical instrumentation. Take your pick, jelly roll or fine ground pork filling. See that? That's a violin, and a mandolin, a banjo, guitar, washboard, and one fat jug blowed on by The Big Boy Baby. Sausage Grinder pushes out some of the best ol' stuff from here to there. More raw, more flavor. This band so big they must sit down on the chair. They make tears of ground beef come out of your radio and home computer system, just like science fiction.

Masters of Old-Time, Zowie!!!

Now, I need to see them live!! "Delicious Moments" blew my minds!! Yes, both of them. This supergroup sounds like they jumped straight off the Harry Smith records into my listening lounge. They've got "it" and sounds effortless. it must be flowing in their veins. And from Los Angeles even!! Powerhouse vocals, fiddle, guitar, mando, jugz, uke, etc. There's way more here than in your average modern "old-time" CD release. Another thing, the production is perfect. It doesn't get in the way of the band. No effects, no fancy stereo BS. It is crisp and up front just like the old 78s! It is old-time, exotic, racy and hilarious.

A real album by real musicians.

One of the hidden gems of music. Wow. Coming from a background of Mississippi John Hurt and Captain Beefheart, this album both delighted and surprised me, from the hypnotic jug blowin' of Boy baby to the siren like wail of Margie Royall. The album is like a time machine, whizzing you back to sounds of bunk house orgies. Listen to this album and you will savor "Delicious Moments".

Stirling sounds of yesteryear... Tempered with the creativity of today

I received the Delicious Moments in the mail the other day... Imagine the craziness of driving through the Arabian streets of Kuwait blasting Bluegrass tuneage from Sausage Grinder... full blast with my window down... It was like Steamboat Willy on a moonshine binge spiraling into the snakepit of Hades... A journey to the bad old days. Simply put, I love it. I really love it... And so did the Bedouin tribesman sitting next to me at the stop light. "Fourth Street Mess Around" was a religious experience for me. I was astounded.
