Savia Andina was a major force in bringing Andean music into the mainstream, hitting the Top 40 charts in South America. It was one of the first modern groups to reclaim and disseminate the traditional songs and contemporary music of the rural Andes as a source of cultural pride for all Latin Americans. Eddy Navia, born in PotosÃ, Bolivia, is a co-founder of Savia Andina and is a composer and one of the greatest exponents and master virtuosos of the charango, a traditional Bolivian stringed instrument. Eddy became SUKAYs artistic director in 1989, and he brought the musicianship of the group to new heights. Navia, who has also recorded eight solo albums, produced 3 albums of Classics of Savia Andina on the Sukay Record label. This album is the 3rd in the series that represents Eddy's more than 15 years touring in four of the five continents and co-directing the group.
