Live on Radio
author: Gayle
I bought this CD for the song "The Girl Just Loves To Dance". I love that song, but the whole CD is wonderful. I bought two and surprised my sister with one for Christmas. It was her favorite present. Your band harmonizes extremely well, both vocally and instrumentally. Keep on picking and singing.

My wife and I really like this CD, and we play it more than any other CD we have. We first heard South by Southwest live at their most recent Black Rose Acoustic Society performance in the Colorado Springs area. Their performance was really enjoyable, prompting us to buy the CD. Unlike so many other cases, we like the CD every bit as much as the live performance and continue to like it. Our first CD was slightly damaged recently and we just recently ordered a second copy to replace the first one.

South By Southwest's best

After six or seven years, I still play this CD more than any other of the 500 or so I own. Live On Radio was made for a local college station music show in 1999, and captures the feeling of a South By Southwest live show (but without audience noise).
The band calls this kind of music "southwest americana," and that's as good a description as any. There's New Mexico and Colorado and a lot of Texas (but not much Nashville) in these songs. The 13 songs are written by the band, and also by the band's songwriting friends like Chuck Pyle and Shake Russell among others. With all respect to these songwriters, though, Mike Hearne and the band take those songs to the next level. Mike Hearne has a fine voice, but more than that he has a way of leaning back, closing his eyes, and letting the songs and the people in them tell their own story. You won't hear more honest music than this.
