Martha Schlamme is recognized as one of the greatest singers of Jewish Folk songs. Born in Vienna, Ms. Schlamme spent the war years in the UK, for a period of time in an "enemy alien" camp. Famous for her work with Kurt Weill, she eventually came to the United States and became very successful and respected as a folk singer and prerformed in opera as well. Though she sang beautifully in many languages, her Yiddish recordings are considered her best, and the selections on this CD, are definitely 'The Best of The Best'. A beautiful and highly recommended CD.
