Album Notes

Doug Schmude's debut CD, A New Century, weaves a common thread through American roots music. The disc takes the listener on a journey through folk, blues, rock, bluegrass and country to convey a mood as well as a message. As a whole, the music is spacious and provides an excellent backdrop for his vivid lyrical imagery. Acclaimed Nashville harmonica player Shannon Williford and Denver music scene veteran Rick Lozano contribute to the recording, among others.

Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Doug spent most of his childhood in Oklahoma and Texas. He honed his songwriting while performing in and around Boulder, Colorado in the late 1990's. In 2000, he relocated to Nashville to further develop his craft. While in Tennessee, he was nominated for several awards through his work with the acoustic blues duo Hot Foot Delta. These experiences in various parts of the country are evident in his music and lyrics. Doug is currently based out of Southern California, performing in support of the CD and writing the next generation of songs. Although he predominately writes and performs on acoustic guitar and resonator slide guitar, he also plays harmonica, mandolin and banjo. His live performances are highlighted by journeys into raw Delta Blues, which are backed by percussive resonator guitar playing, often pounding on the guitar for rhythmic accent. In addition to songwriting, recording and performing, Doug lends his talents as a session guitarist, recording engineer and producer.

Doug Schmude's guitar work has that certain energy about it, a feel that makes you believe that these things come just plain ole naturally for him. On his debut CD, Doug demonstrates that ability, along with songwriting skills that makes you wish that there were more than the eleven cuts included on the CD. Highly recommended!
