The Matt Schofield Trio is one of the most musically dynamic bands on the UK blues scene. On this debut CD, The Trio play a selection of their favourite upbeat blues and funky stuff, recorded live at one their first gigs (It's live because that's what they excel at - live performance!).

This album oozes vibrancy and energy, and you will be blown away by the talents of messrs Schofield, Henderson and Jenkins. Within hours of hearing a rough cut of the CD, The BBC booked the Trio for a live session which is being broadcast nationwide in August 2004 on the Paul Jones Show, BBC R2 (you can check transmission date and details for listening on the web at: www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/jones).

Guitarist and singer Matt Schofield has been described as the finest new generation blues guitarist in Britain. While influenced by the likes of Albert Collins, the three blues Kings (Albert, Freddie and BB) and Robben Ford, Matt has evolved his own distinctive style and tone. His feel for what he is playing is second to none. Matt can also be heard on recordings by British Blues diva, Dana Gillespie (with whom he regularly tours), the Lee Sankey Band, and the Lester Butler Tribute band, among others.

Organist Jonny Henderson nails that vintage Hammond sound. At just twenty three years of age Jonny has already proved himself in the international arena. A year with Otis Grand's band saw him accompany an impressive list of artists including Texas Blues stars Anson Funderburgh and Kim Wilson, and the Stax soul legend Steve Cropper.

Deep in the engine room, laying down The Trio's infectious grooves is Evan Jenkins. He's pretty much done it all - a formal training in jazz, tours with Ronnie Scott and Mornington Lockett, The Western Australia Symphony Orchestra, and pop and rock bands. In the last few years his natural feel for the blues has found him backing many international artistes including Big Bill Morganfield and Larry Garner.

The CD opens with an instrumental - Soulive's "Uncle Junior" - definitely more funk than Blues. Listen for the sublime change when lead guitar takes over from the organ - beautiful!

The next three tracks are as blue as they come, but with the Trio's trademark arrangements and stunning guitar playing, soulful and melodic.

Back to funk for track 5, The Meters "Cissy Strut" - this one is hot enough to burn the soles of your feet! It's the track that many people remark upon. Vintage Guitar described it as going into an Allman-esque jam.

It stays upbeat for the next track, Albert Collins' Travellin' South (is it Albert, or is it Matt playing the guitar? - definitely Matt, but you get the point).

Then on to a super arrangement in Robben Ford style of "Sitting on top of The World", this is one to make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.

The CD closes with a foot tappin' blues/jazz instrumental written by that master of the Hammond Organ, Bruce Katz.

There's no bass player but you wouldn't know it: Jonny Henderson's Hammond playing is sensational, and along with Evan Jenkins on drums, he nails down the grooves into a glorious oily backdrop over which Schofield's '61 Strat can soar.
Standout tracks: Cissy Strut, Travellin' South, Hippology.

Amazing new CD from Britians current #1 blues trio.

Although this first CD from Matt is a selection of covers, the trios treatment of the eight tastefully chosen songs is electrifying. Recorded LIVE at the Half Moon in Bishop Storford UK, the musicianship and sheer passion of the performances has been captured . An absolute must for any blues lover.
