Born and raised in Peoria, Illinois, Jim started piano lessons at an early age and with encouragement from his maternal grandfather, music seemed to choose him, rather than the other way around.
After attending North Texas State University from 1972-75, He found himself touring the Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi region with various cover bands and ultimately landing in the Los Angeles area in 1978.
Writing, producing, and demo-ing led to co-writing a funky techno tune called 'This ain't Puppy love" appearing on Billy Griffin's 2nd solo release for Columbia records in 1985. (Billy Griffin replaced Smoky Robinson as lead vocalist of the Miracles in 1975)
While living in Los Angeles in the 1980's and early 90's, Jim worked with the pop Latin group "Tierra" who scored a Top 40 hit with the song " Together" in 1980.
As a member of "Tierra" from 1988-1990 he shared the stage with pop groups War, Expose, Pancho Sanchez Latin Band and Tower of Power.
With his debut release he combines funk, Latin, rock, and classic R&B for a style all his own.
Jim Schweigert is currently writing and recording the follow up to "Out of the Shadows" for his own "Too Many Notes" record label.
