Album Notes

So the new album is entirely instrumental. The original concept was to record the score of a non-existent film, leaving it up to the listener to piece together a story line from the moods suggested by the music. This was set up to encourage listener interpretation, to inspire a story in your head, a daydream. The writing was approached linearly with absolutely no preconceived ideas about where it would go, it was built one song at a time in the order they appear on the album. And yes, there is a storyline to this album.

Recorded in Santa Clarita, CA between 3/19/09 and 4/29/09. Mixed and mastered in early October 2009. Guest vocal on track 13 by Joopiter the Dog.

A Tense, Melodic Firestorm of Sound
author: Hope H.
There is something quite entrancing and engaging about Andy's ability to mix the serene with the sinister and with Fire At High Seas, he has done exactly that. This album is a musical journey that moves along with a sense of urgency - a story that is both peaceful and reckless - like fire - warm & comforting when controlled, destructive and chaotic when racing down a dry slope. This album captures both ends of the spectrum. How can the same electric guitar on the track "Looking at the Sky" call you out for a quiet walk on the beach and then bludgeon you to an emotional pulp on another? Simply put - because Andy has taken great care to create an emotional scape that both beckons you to take the journey and then haunts you once it is over. His musicianship shows on every track - never overdone, even the songs with "angry" instrumentation are also very melodic. If you like horror movie soundtracks or the music of tense crime dramas, you will LOVE this album. Don't think it is all dark & threatening though - there are some suprisingly brighter, lighter moments when Andy plays acoustic guitar and softens it up a bit, but even then, there is a sense that something ominous is approaching and that is what pulls the album all together into one amazing, melodic, firestorm of sound. Take a listen to Calm Before the Torn, Chasing Mother Nature, Murder Beach, How Long 'Til We Move On (my personal favorites) to get a good sampling of the various styles and then buy the whole album and take the journey yourself.
