Distant Spirits

Native American Music Award winner Scott August emerged onto the Native American inspired New Age music scene with this ground breaking recording in 2001. Combining Native American flutes with guitar and piano, along with native and world percussion, Distant Spirits redefined the genre with its timeless soundscapes and soothing textures, and went on to be nominated for a Native American Music Award.

Likened to the music of R.C. Nakai, John Huling, Douglas Spotted Eagle and Mary Young Blood, August's evocative music has been featured on the nationally syndicated NPR radio shows “Hearts of Space” and “Echoes”. New Age Retailer magazine called his music “gorgeous... August [is] a superbly gifted multi-instrumentalist, [his music is] an excellent accompaniment for meditation or yoga, and it is transporting music for simple relaxation and quiet listening.”

August's second release, Sacred Dreams, shifted gears to focus on the haunting sounds of the solo Native American flute, including the deep resonant tones of the Native Bass flute and clay flutes from ancient Mexico. Added to this captivating mix are the natural sounds of the Southwest. Sacred Dreams won a Native American music award in the winter of 2005.

On August's newest release, New Fire, he returns to the innovative style of Distant Spirits but with more energy and spirit. With its catchy melodies, driving rhythms and exotic, yet familiar instruments, New Fire has quickly become one of the best selling Native American-Southwest inspired New Age music titles. Soaring Native American flute melodies accompanied by guitars, pianos, Aztec drums, African kalimbas, Indonesian gamelans, Australian didgeridoos and haunting Mayan double flutes are mixed together for form a rich fabric of sound.
