notes

Married since 1993 to his wife Ellie, father of 2 and stepfather of 3. Scott has much to praise God for.

Scott was born and raised in the Frederick, Maryland area into a family that's known in the area for its musical talent. Whether it was the church choir or the local community marching band, if your name was Day you did something musical. His father and his father's siblings all directed church choirs at sometime or another. They were also, as well as most of their children, active in the community concert band playing a wide variety of instruments. Scott was raised in the Methodist Church, joining the church choir while in the 2nd grade. That's when he also began piano lessons .....which didn't take. He got his first guitar for Christmas while in the 4th grade, taught hiimself to play the trombone during the summer before starting 5th grade. The summer before 9th grade he taught himself how to play the tuba and then moved from trombone to tuba when he started with high school band, earning 1st chair all county band on the tuba his senior year.

But the defining moment in his life came the last day of summer in 1973. That's when, at a Baptist youth retreat, Scott came to know Jesus Christ, not just as someone he heard about on Sunday's, but as a real, personal Savior. In 1976 Scott began playing bass guitar and writing music with his first Christian band. It was a group originally called New Birth which some friends and he formed. Eventually the name of the band was changed to Starlight. Starlight played regularly from North Carolina to Pennsylvania until 1983. After a year off, part of Starlight, along with some new faces, decided it was time to get active again and formed Sojourner. Sojourner was together until 1990. During this time Scott also played bass guitar and served as assistant worship leader at Living Word Fellowship in Rockville, Maryland.

It would be nice to be able to say Scott then lived happily ever after, but that's not real life. By 1989 he was at a place in his life where, as Scott himself puts it "With all I was doing "for God", I was pretty sure God was awfully happy to have me. That's when God, in His infinite love, stepped in and brought me back down to earth by putting me on the bench for a time of humbling, repentance, rest and healing." That's where Scott stayed for three years. In that period of time Scott came to know just how blessed he was to personally know a loving God of grace and mercy. He discovered how totally dependant we are on Him and there's nothing we can accomplish without Him doing it. He came to know "We are merely His servants who are totally blessed to just be at His beckon call."

It wasn't until 1993 that Scott again began to become active in ministry when he joined the worship team playing bass guitar at the Frederick Worship Center. He happily served in that capacity for four years until he was asked to begin leading worship as part of a three team rotation. Though he very reluctantly accepted, soon he found his real calling. After a year the 3 team rotation was done away with and Scott became the worship leader. One of the highlights of his years there was what they called Saturday Night Splash. Splash was a once a month event where they would do nothing for hours but worship the Lord. Splash became a regular habit, not just for people in Scott's fellowship but for people from fellowships all over the surrounding area. Scott continued there as worship leader until January 2002 when he left with Pastors Chris and Mary Ellen Geeslin to become Worship Pastor at a new fellowship they were planting in Frederick called Redeemer International Family Church.

As Scott puts it, "I have discovered leading people in worshipping God is one of the main reasons God put me on this earth. I love to just offer up my feeble talents to God in worship and to see Him move and touch people's lives. I love worshipping God with all my heart, soul and strength. There's nothing better than when His presence fills a room. I've sat in rooms so thick with God's presence that I could do nothing but sit in peaceful silence. And I have a passionate desire to operate in God's calling on my life to lead God's people into that very same experience." We are changed in His presence and who among us isn't in need of some changing?
