Scott Ezell is a writer, musician, and visual artist. He lived many years in Asia, where he absorbed traditional music styles and became fluent in Chinese. "Ocean Hieroglyphics" was recorded in a mountain farmhouse overlooking the Pacific Ocean on the coast of Taiwan, where Scott Ezell lived with a tribe of aboriginal woodcarvers and built a recording studio from driftwood. These ambient instrumental songs express the color and texture of the ocean with traditional instruments from four continents. Total time, 63 minutes.

Color and texture
author: Tito
I recently sliced open a green tomato and was surprised by perhaps the most beautifully vital shade of green I have seen. This reminded me of Scott Ezell's Ocean Hieroglyphics album and the way he captures through music the colors, textures and moods of the natural environment----without, I might add, interjecting bird calls or whale songs. This is pure, yet complex-- and deeply contemplative--music that gently carries you along. Good for restful ambiance at the end of a difficult day or for professional dancers with the urge to move in grace.
