Album Notes
Scott gerber, known as the "jewish cowboy" has been herding and caring for cattle in sonoma, california for the past 25 years. As well, for 25 years, Scott has been playing guitar and singing both yiddish folk songs and cowboy songs. In 2002, an 18 minute documentary about Scott was produced by Bonnie Burt and has been since shown at Jewish film festivals around the country. Scott often accompanies the film and sings live to the audiences. This is Scott's very first c.d. which features both traditional yiddish songs about working people and familiar social justice songs by Woodie Guthrie and Earl Robinson. According to the Petaluma Argus Courier Newspaper, "Songs of a Jewish Cowboy" is unique.

I've listened to this CD incessantly since I got it. I LOVE IT!
This is a very unique CD--encompassing yiddish and english in the same song, so one knows what the song is about. These are clearly traditional and some non-traditional for an enjoyable mix. The quality of the sound is excellent and the artwork is delightful. The only thing I would have liked/enjoyed are the words in the album jacket. For me, that would have really added an extra dimension. Meanwhile, I'm trying to learn the words by listening to the yiddish, but since I don't speak yiddish, it's a bit of a challenge.
