Charbonneau, a piano recording by Scott Kirby, may be categorized only as piano music. Descriptions of the styles could include terra verde, American traditional, American romantic, French traditional, creole, Brazilian classical, Mexican popular, children’s song and new age. Such a range of musical genres does not lend itself to commercial success because of the obvious difficulty in offering a convenient label or marketing niche. This recording was done purely for a love of the music, in the hopes that something in the performance, or perhaps even an extra-musical quality, will carry it to as many listeners as possible. Scott considers this his most sincere and expressive recording, perhaps best illuminated by the title track, “Charbonneau.”

Another fine Scott Kirby recording
author: John Vouliouris
Most of the music appearing for the first time in this CD is superb. The playing of Scott Kirby is, as always, magnificent and the sound quality beyond compare. It is a pity that some of the best tracks have already appeared on other CDs and that there have not been included more Kirby compositions in the place of some less impressive pieces. The great drawback of this CD however is, quite surprisingly, the complete lack of liner notes. Anyway, on the whole this disk is a delight to hear and highly recommended.

My wife and I really enjoy Scott Kirby and DTRs piano music. We enjoyed "Charbonneau" so much that we ordered two more CDs for gifts to some of our friends.

Gentle and uplifting.

We enjoy playing this CD on a summer evening at bedtime. It's played just as brilliantly as Scott Kirby's other CDs (clarity and texture) but we find it gentler than Some Assembly Required and On Lincoln Place. If you loved the Centennial sampler but didn't enjoy On Lincoln Place then I'd recommend trying Charbonneau.
