Album Notes

Scott MacIntyre began playing piano by ear at age 3, though he has been visually impaired since birth. Classically trained, he has been profiled on CNN, Sky News Europe, USA Today, and other media as pianist, vocalist, and songwriter. He has independently released 6 full-length CD's and has written in genres spanning pop, rock, punk, jazz, and classical.

He has received awards for piano, composition, and vocal performance. Recent highlights include winner of the VSA Arts 2008 Young Soloists Award; First Place in the Herberger Theater Center Young Artist Competition; First Place in the Fiesta Chorus of Sweet Adeline Talent Search; First Place in the Butterfield Young Artist Concerto Competition; Grand Prize Winner Phoenix Symphony Guild, First Place Senior Piano Concerto competition; and second place in the national finals of the Canadian Music Competitions. He has performed as guest soloist with symphony orchestras, as well as playing the Kennedy Center, Orpheum Theater, Sundome, Phoenix Symphony Hall, and Gammage Auditorium.

As an independant musician Scott has been flown to cities in North America and Europe for performances including a performance and interview for the "Hour of Power" broadcast taped in front of a live audience of 4,000 in California. He frequently donates performances for conventions, churches, charities, and stadium athletic events (US Airways Center / Phoenix Suns, Chase Field / Diamondbacks), and thoroughly enjoys bringing his music to all audiences.

Scott has lived, performed, and studied in London, England where he obtained his masters degree in Performance Studies from the Royal College of Music and Royal Holloway University of London. He was also accepted to both Oxford and Cambridge for further graduate-level research. After graduating from Arizona State University at age 19, Summa-Cum-Laude with a BM in Piano Performance, he was nominated by the College of Fine Arts as the “Outstanding Graduate.” Scott is the recipient of the Marshall scholarship, Fulbright scholarship (to the UK), USAToday All-USA Academic First Team and is a Rhodes Finalist for Arizona. In 2006, He was received in the White House by the First Lady as one of three national RFB&D scholarship winners. He previously studied on scholarship at Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Universitat Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, and Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada. Other ambitions include computer programming and languages, skiing with a sighted guide, performing in community theatre and musicals including lead roles in “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown” and “The Music Man.” He has participated in the YMCA "Youth in Government" program in elected positions of President of the Senate, Senate Majority Leader, and was honored to receive the "Outstanding First Year Senator" award at the Arizona State Capitol for excellence in debate.

Scott MacIntyre is a fantastic musician and a lyricist. While this 2006 CD was his first stepping stone into the world of popular music and not as artistically polished as the works that followed it, it nevertheless is a solid body of music. The lyrics, above all, are resonant and nicely phrased. Then, underneath the common thread of its AC-stylings, each song is quite distinct from another. Stylistically, there is a touch of modern rock and jazz-folk feel to it, which varies from song to song, and even the classical undertones have "coolness factor" to them, if that makes sense. Then there is Scott's rich and convincing voice that brings all of these songs to life. Highlights of this album for me are "Silver", "Dream World", "Hard to Be Away", "Lost in a Meadow" and "Sweet Dreams". (kudos to Scott's brother Todd to chimming in that one!)
