ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Life energy passion... These are the elements that permeate this debut. Each member has contributed with his unique style to create a contemporary jazz sound like no other. Here you will find everything from funky jazz to latin dancing together with inspired raw design. If it doesn't come FROM WIHTHIN you go without - this is music for your soul.

Saxophonist Scott Paddock has redefined the sound of contemporary jazz. With his passionate and effortless approach to playing the saxophone and an endless desire to push the limits of the horn, Paddock has created a new sound which blends aspects of jazz, r&b, funk, & latin. He combines them with soul inspired compositions that reach far beyond the normal constraints of instrumental music.

JAZZ TIMES (Jan 2002) - Hilarie S. Grey "...Paddock himself proves to be a versatile, strong leading voice, whether he's speeding and spiraling like the old-time funksters, laying down muscular licks or gently snaking and weaving through percussion."

Paddock's "versatile, strong leading voice" has led him to the stage, performing with several national acts including: Little Feat, Bela Fleck, The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Jackson Browne, Lenny Pickett, and Billy Bob Thorton. In addition to his section and solo work with the above artists, Paddock has performed as an opening act for: Ray Charles, Gladys Knight, LeeAnn Womack, Natalie Cole, Joan Jett, and The Drifters. Paddock has also performed at many prestigious venues including: The Kennedy Center, Lisner Auditorium, Art Scape, The Inner Harbor Concert Series, The National Capital BBQ Battle, Myerhoff Symphony Hall, Pier Six Concert Pavilion, and Merriweather Post Pavilion.

The release of Paddock's debut CD "From Within" brought rave reviews and is a first glimpse of what is to come as his music hits the masses.

Cool Jazz 88.9 - DJ Gary Ellerby interview 6/21/01 "every time I put one of your tracks on the air my phone lines light up"

Music Monthly (Jan 2001) - Susie Mudd "This kid, Scott Paddock, can blow that horn. He also writes some great music, and I've gotta be honest, I expected good things, but I was not prepared for just how remarkable this disc is."

Old Towne Crier (July 2001) - Diane Gibbs "Does jazz music have a future as a commercially viable art form? Scott Paddock and all of these fabulous musicians show without question that they are the future of jazz. The great thing about it is we can enjoy it now - today."

In addition to Paddock's performing career he is also in demand in the recording studio where he has done session work for: Miramax Films, XM Satellite Radio, UPN television Network, Artisan Entertainment, Universal Pictures, FOX televsion network, Focus Features Films, Dirty Dancing:Havana Nights, and The Assination of Richard Nixon (2004 release featuring Sean Penn).

A true masterpiece !
I very recently bought this CD withouth listening to soundbytes for USD 5.00 here at CDBaby.... and I'd gladly have paid USD 30.00 for such a masterpiece.
If the unlikely event that Spyro Gyra, Tower of Power, James Brown and Weather Report had a baby then it would be The Scott Paddock Electric Band. This CD is wonderful from A to Z, the production is top notch and the musicianship of the highest level. But most importantly, this band GROOOOOOOOOOOVE ! Their version of the Sting/Clapton hit It's Probably Me is breathtaking. Carla Scaggs is the most impressive female singer I have heard since Diane Reeves. What a voice ! Paddock is a very exciting player who is not afraid to strech out. Drummer Brian Hughes is amazing and his mix of JR Robinson/Harvey Mason/David Garibaldi way of playing is a joy to listen to. Bass player Gerald Moore is a monster too. I cannot say enough good things about "From Within". The covers are splendid and really sound fresh & new. But the bands original tunes keep up with the quality of their covers. Busy Back Soon is a fantastic funky fusion tune for instance. I am afraid that my English is too limited to say all the good things I'd like to say about From Within. And if anyone knows where I can find more music featuring Carla Scaggs and Brian Hughes, please let me know. Thanks for this brilliant piece of music. I love it.

Amazing!!
This is one of those CDs that you definitely get more than you pay for. When listening to this CD, you will find that the combined talent and musicianship of this group is outstanding. Energy and style are found in every note of this recording.
Scott Paddock not only shows technical mastery of the saxophone but also of the emotion found in only true musicians. You will be amazed at this performance.
I highly recommend this CD. "From Within" combines familiar tunes with new, original charts-soon to be favorites.

Yes- it is that good. Buy it now!
Even though this is a debut CD, it shows a maturity and listenability not found in lots of contemporary jazz. The CD showcases the bands' talent through various styles while maintaining a consistent energy. This is a great CD for anyone who enjoys music!

on top and in the pocket
In a market where the competition is traditionalist verses smooth the SPED hits a nerve that any listener regardless of backgroud will groove on. When the last tune was finished I was actually disapointed that there wasnt more. Furthermore the production is spotless, my hats off to all that were involved in the project...100grand albums wish they were this good.

Incredible Music....
I recently purchased Scott Paddock's CD "From Within." This is the best $12 I have ever spent! The music is energetic and full of life, and man can he play the saxophone! Check it out for yourself! It is a new approach to contemporary jazz that I have never heard before. The music contains so much emotion and enthusiasm...you can feel the passion from the entire band in each song. It is nice to hear a group play with so much inspiration.
