Debut solo album (non-soundtrack) of moody pop/rock songs from Scott Radway, a member of the bands Polkadot Cadaver (drums) and Now Soon Nowhere (keyboards, drums). Put aside your preconceived notions about drummers' solo albums -- this is not flashy, technical music by any means! Conversely, this is also not strum-y acoustic singer/songwriter fare.
Stylistically influenced by artists such as Peter Gabriel, Tears For Fears, Steven Wilson, Jon Brion and more, these songs range from the upbeat 70s shuffle of "Ghost, no. 2" to the dark layers of "Silent Killers," a right turn at the jazzy "You'll Convince Me" and an atmospheric (and, at times, heavy) conclusion with "This Train". Leadoff track "Ghost" sets the tone immediately with lush instrumentation that grows almost one instrument at a time from the opening percussion sequence.
SCOTT RADWAY - vocals, drums, percussion, Chapman Stick, some guitar and bass, keyboards, sampling, programming, orchestrations
RICH BANISTER - most guitars and bass on all songs
NAEEMAH MADDOX - chorus vocals ("Too Slow For You", "The Roundworm")
JON RADWAY - tenor sax ("Free")
BRETT KULL - slide guitar ("Stranger")
All ten tracks on FORMER GHOSTS move and breathe thanks to the expert mixing/engineering of BRETT KULL (Echolyn) and the mastering work of TY TABOR (King's X). The album also boasts beautiful artwork by FLORIAN SCHMIDT.
