************************************************************

In November 2006, guitarist Scott Sawyer recorded "Go There" with Kenny Soule (Nantucket, Dag) on drums, Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers, Aquarium Rescue Unit) on electric bass, Kofi Burbridge (Derek Trucks Band) on B3 & flute and Ron Brendle (Frank Kimbrough) on acoustic bass.

The sessions re-united Sawyer & Soule after the split of the original GO THERE, which enjoyed a cult following in NC but disbanded in 2004. And the Burbridge brothers were re-united for their first recording together in 8 years.

"There was no prior rehearsal and we had to work very quickly...but it was BIG FUN making this record and the music reflects that!" -- SS

"If you know Raleigh guitarist Scott Sawyer from only his jazz gigs and tours with jazz singer Nnenna Freelon, "Go There" (Doll) opens a different door. Welcome to Scott Sawyer, the funk, rock, blues -- and jazz -- player.... With a preponderance of Sawyer tunes, the album is all groove underneath.... If you're looking for a pure, hard-line jazz album, this is not it. But if you think it represents a compromise, think again. It's its own species." (Owen Cordle (N&O May 2007; Raleigh, NC)

"THE BADDEST MOTHER F**S I’VE HEARD IN 10 YEARS!" -- (Oteil Burbridge, world-renowned bass player after hearing the original GO THERE live, 8/1/04)

"Though Sawyer can swing cerebrally, solving prickly harmonic riddles like a mathematician, he’s at his best as a blue-collar improviser, combining earthy jazz and accessible blues that make the listener wanna holler." (Joe Vanderford)

Go There

I got this because a sample of this style sounded like John Scofield. Several songs do, but I was pleasantly surprised by some longer songs where a flute was highlighted, reminiscent of Dave Valentin. Recommended if you like guitar-based jazz instrumentals.

I've been a fan of Scott Sawyer's music for years and consider him to be one of the greatest guitarists in the country. That there are so few recordings of him available is one of the music world's great injustices. Compounding this difficulty is that his playing is so damn good in so many diverse styles, which means there are still a lot of CDs to make if the public is going to have an inkling of his gift. Go There is Scott at his genre-busting best. What would you call this? "fusion"? "jazzy jam-band"? In the end it doesn't matter: this is just cool music, from the soul, with inventive writing, fantastic players, and heartfelt improvisations. Go wherever you have to to get a copy of this disc.

Sawyer reality check
author: Robert Kaye
This is another project of Sawyer's collection of art. Just thought I'd share one of my Experiences seeing Sawyer live. A complete euphoric experience. I think he does it here on a few tunes also. I caught him years ago when he was young and feeling brilliant, playing with his eyes closed. For as long as I live I will never see another guitarist in that euphoric state again. That should describe Sawyer the Master Guitarist in a few words.

GREAT CD,good grooves,creative improve,bluesy edge
author: GALEN R.HUNSUCKER
Go There is a must have cd.This cd really grooves. It is truly genre busting! These guys put out some fine rhytmn. The melodies stay with you and as for improv--I would have to use the word fresh. Each player has his own voice and each shine but it is the unit as a whole that really captures you.It is a fusion or rather blending of styles and artistic expression. Also, one of the things that puts this cd in a league of it's own is this.--While the grooves vary and the solos are fresh this cd never loses that blues element that most fusion music just doesn't have!Ihope they all get together and GO THERE AGAIN!!!!
