Album Notes

The following tracks are performed by the Slapin-Solomon Viola Duo: In Memoriam, Serenade, and Intermezzo. The Elegy-Caprice is performed by Scott Slapin, and the Postlude is performed by Tanya Solomon, solo viola, with Scott Slapin on the accompanying viola parts.

Scott Slapin's music for viola has been performed at the Primrose, ARD and Tertis Competitions and in conservatories and concert halls from New York to Los Angeles. He was commissioned to write the required solo piece for the 2008 International William Primrose Viola Competition, and some of his violacentric chamber music can be heard on the Eroica CD Reflection, played by members of the Slapin family. At fourteen, he made his debut as a composer in the State Theater of his native New Jersey, favorably reviewed in the New Jersey Star Ledger. He studied composition with Richard Lane. Scott's music is published by Ourtext in London and Liben in Cincinnati. Visit him on the web at www.scottslapin.com.

The Slapin-Solomon Duo has performed throughout the U.S., including appearances at the International Viola Congress and as artists in residence at the Montalvo Arts Center in California. Scott and Tanya won Best Chamber Music Performance for 2008 at New Orleans' Tribute to the Classical Arts.

They have commissioned, premiered and recorded new works for two violas by Gerald Busby, Richard Lane, Patrick Neher, Frank Proto and David Rimelis, and their debut CD Sketches from the New World: American Viola Duos in the 21st Century was hailed as 'absolutely brilliant' in Strad Magazine.
