Scratcher - The Henry Street Sessions
Conceived at a vodka drinking session in New York City during the winter of 2001, Scratcher comprises Pete Amos (guitars and vocals), Peter DeLuca (drums), Neil Gorny (bass and lead guitars), Audrey Kellar (vocals) and Patrick Tafoya (guitars and keyboards).
Their self-produced album, "The Henry Street Sessions", is the culmination of 4-months of Sunday afternoons recording at Peter's flat in Brooklyn.
With roots in the indie-pop scene from the 90's, Scratcher's sound is diverse, and at times reminiscent of The Cure, The Cardigans, New Order and The Sundays. Despite such diversity, with three featured vocalists (including special guest Robert Dodd), Scratcher manages to maintain their own distinct style.
The guitar-based songs provide the perfect platform to showcase Kellar's enchanting vocals, evident on opening tracks "Battle of Britta", and "Thirteen."
The songs have character and the melodies are infectious. The album is full of jangly guitar hooks, solid rhythms and smooth bass lines.
"The Henry Street Sessions" offers 3 bonus tracks including the 'dominatrix' remix of Britta that would grace any dance club worldwide.
Overall, the Henry Street Sessions is an inspired debut that deserves repeated listening.

more please...
author: britpopperNow...clearly this is a demo effort, but MORE please! It's obvious that the tentative quality of this first release would quickly be replaced by a more confident, full throttle attack on a next effort- Excellent melodies, harmonies and vocals. Great guitars- great remixes. Do it again, soon. Worth a listen and a record deal!
The music is upbeat and peppy. Worth looking into. Promising, as well.
author: Bill Ribas (NY Rock columnist)The music is upbeat and peppy, with a lot of airy, jangling guitar work, floating female vocals (for the most part), and melodic bits and pieces that get stuck in your head quite easily. And given that this was recorded in an apartment, the sound quality is quite good. The song "The First Time" blends in some good guitar solos, with some nice melodic coloring. The remix of "Battle of Britta," labeled "Dominatrix Mix," shows someone in the band knows his way around the dance floor, or at least what gets the little ravers to move, as it sets up an infectious hypnotic groove. Worth looking into. Promising, as well.
Beautifully crafted...
author: Robbie FWanna feel good? Then play these beautifully crafted songs... they have earned a place in my collection.
