Album Notes

HAMMONDBEAT is proud to present "SCREAM ON!” the explosive debut by SCREAMIN’ RETRO, the current project by UK keyboard genius Glenn Maltman. SCREAMIN’ RETRO combines live instrumentation with phat dance club hooks to create a sound that appeals to everyone and their doggies. Mash-up the blaxsploitation soundtracks of the 70’s with the funkiest of the Lalo Schifrin sessions and you’ve got SCREAMIN’ RETRO. “SCREAM ON!” is a perfect introduction to a legend in the making.

SCREAMIN’ RETRO delivers a no-holds barred musical knockout to the establishment – proving along the way that dance music can be played by actual musicians on real instruments, and that real music can be as fresh as any sample-heavy anthem. “SCREAM ON!” was produced with a who’s who of the funkiest studio musicians the UK has to offer, including 3 guitars (Andy Power, Mick Yare and Peter Collumbine), 2 trumpets (Graham Hardy and Noel Dennis), 2 saxes (Nick Kenedy and John McGough) all backing Glenn’s screamin’ Hammond organ. Augmenting the lineup is the stellar vocals of Corey Jackson on “It’s Just A Cat”.

”SCREAM ON!” features club favorites “Rip It Up” and “Riff Rage”. Other featured tracks include the chill-out groove “Bones Jones” and the ripping “Groove For Dave”.

SCREAMIN’ RETRO has accomplished the unthinkable…Dance music with soul – old school funk with club appeal for today! A return of real music and real musicians to the dance clubs!

“SCREAM ON”, baby!

Only thing bad about this release is that it ends.

If you like the Hammond B3, you need to give Screamin’ Retro - “Scream On!” a listen. Glenn Maltman is Screamin’ Retro and hails from the UK. This release has that melodic/funky/repetitive groove that is characteristic of other British acts like DTTB, James Taylor Quartet, Shakatak and the Chris Bangs projects. “Scream On!” is infectious, feel good music! Along with the Hammond organ is a horn section that really fills it up and a lotta wah wah guitar. I’ve haven’t been this excited about a UK release since early DTTB. My only concern is that I’ll listen to it too much. It is NUMBER 1 on the Hammondbeat top seller list. Anyway, Screamin' Retro is fabulous. Only thing bad about this release is that it ends (7 tracks).

Playfully romping mod soul style

Keyboard heavy grooves from Screamin Retro -- a tasty little EP that's halfway between Prestige Records jazz funk of the late 60s and some of the more electric soundtrack work of the 70s! Keys include a fair bit of Hammond in the mix, but there also appears to be some others as well -- although we can't tell for sure due to a lack of notes -- and all tunes here are in a playfully romping mod soul style -- similar to other work on Hammond Beat, but a fair bit funkier too!
