Sealion is a reggae collective based in Dublin and Berlin, producing roots reggae; the driving force behind Sealion is singer Jah Seal. Beginning life in 1998, the Sealion crew first recorded in Berlin featuring ace drummer Tokunbo Balogun (Balogun System) and Jivan Schlag on bass, with Frank Delle (Seeed) producing and singing backing vocals. The rest of Spirit Live was recorded in 2000 and 2001 featuring the Irish-Jamaican Evans brothers on bass, guitars and vocals. Spirit Live was hugely influential in the Irish music scene which has since seen Sinead O'Connor release a reggae covers album.

Reviews:
"Fat, meaty basslines throb throughout, a solid pulse around which the band wraps sparse, lean lines and simple, effortless beats." - Matthew Magee, Sunday Tribune
"It's hard not to be buoyed along by the righteous fervour of this album. Lynch's voice is authentic and soulful. Spirit Live shows a strong Bob Marley influence and this is brought to bear on standout tracks like 'Liberation' with its spindly riff and 70s mellotron keyboard, 'Trail of Tears' with its echoed and call and response chorus, and the gloriously sunny and very catchy 'Mexico Yet'. The musicianship is first class, with laid-back drumming, solid rhythm guitar and funky bass." - Kernan Andrews, Galway Advertiser
