Originally from Belfast, Ireland, Seamus Kennedy has been entertaining audiences all over the U.S. for more than three decades.
With a repertoire that encompasses just about everything in the folk genre, he can go from a heart-rending ballad of Ireland's historic troubles to a daft ditty and a silly song, with lots of humorous patter thrown in.
He accompanies himself on the bodhrán (the Irish hand-drum) and the guitar, and he encourages audience participation and singing along.
This CD, Party Pieces, are the songs he heard his parents, aunts and uncles, family and friends singing at parties back home in Ireland in his youth.
They run the gamut from the eerie, ghostly love song She Moved Through the Fair (his father's party piece) to the completely silly Spaniard Who Blighted My Life - his mother's party piece.
Feel free to join in, laugh or sing along, and maybe get a party piece of your own.

Underneath A Dreamers Blue Sky.

The light and cheerfull side of irish folk music (more whiskey in the jar than molly malone!)added some international flavours, such as amerian country, italian pop, spanish flamenco and even a touch of some more ecsotic east european/arabic sounding glimses here and there. I geuss you can call it a kind of "world music" even though the irish tone is strongly dominating all through the album. But it has something else. A unique mood of warm hearted, "old town"-nostalgia. Down to earth but looking up in heaven, reaching from the gutter for the moon and the stars.Absolutely old fashioned in an quite inovative and completely refreshing way. It may sound like a strange comparing, but it some how reminds me of one of my favorite pop-groups from the 70's, Sailor, who had some of the same atmospheare of mixing fun with sentimentality, in a well-known, yet surprising way. For others I think it may sound more like The Kingston Trio meets Van Morrison. But what ever it might remind you of...If you like traditional folk music with a different twist, you'll love this album. It's thruely wonderfull stuff! Might be just what you've been looking for. At least it was for me.
