Album Notes

Composer, arranger, songwriter, saxophonist, clarinetist, flautist, guitarist, bassist, vocalist... Sean Hully has been an active member of the Toronto music scene since 1994. A native of Peterborough, Ontario, Sean has toured as a saxophonist with tribute bands across Canada and the U.S. and has had extended engagements at sea on cruise ships. Today, he continues to play saxophone in various groups around Toronto.

Sean also enjoys playing guitar and assuming the role of singer/songwriter. In 2003, Sean released an album independently called Interaction. This song collection was billed as “progressive roots rock” because Sean indirectly drew on the influences of artists such as Paul Simon, Neil Young, The Police and Rush. Songs on Interaction have been featured on Canadian campus radio and the CBC.

Sean completed a Master of Arts Degree in 2007 in composition. After studying the work of the 20th century composer Béla Bartók, Sean decided to incorporate orchestral instruments into his music. Today he is continuing his academic studies as a Ph.d. candidate in musicology.

In his new repertoire, the woodwind instruments are the icing that go on top of the guitar/voice cake. Sean’s aim is to write and perform acoustic music for intimate settings and to use the talent of local musicians whenever possible.

Sean's Interaction is an example of his ambition to be a musician and not just a saxophonist, guitarist, singer composer, etc. Sean's music is honest, catchy and worth buying. P.S. and Check out the band!

I bought this CD at Sean's launch party, and listen to it frequently. It is different than I expected, having heard Sean play live numerous times. It has a warm feel to it, a homey feel to it. I would describe it as *canadian to its core*. Sean Hully is definately a musician to keep your eye on.
