Album Notes

On “Wider Than The Sky,” singer-songwriter Sean Vernon has taken 14 poems by Emily Dickinson and put them to music, creating what Dirty Linen magazine calls “a downright beautiful album.” The Amherst Bulletin said, “These are haunting melodies sung in a beautifully clear voice, with sensitive and marvelous accompaniment by over a dozen of the area’s finest musicians.” The 14 musicians, led by award-winning engineer Joe Podlesny on bass and electric guitar, include Sylvia Brallier on flue, Peter Jones on keyboards, Daisy Mayhem’s Rani Arbo on fiddle, Dan Lombardo on drums and percussion, Vernon David on cello, and both “glitter queen” Judy Polan and Boston-based singer-songwriter Barbara Baker singing harmonies. Vernon sings all the tracks and plays acoustic guitar and piano. The music opens a door into some of the most extraordinary poetry in our language and brings that poetry to life in new and unforgettable ways.
